15 For this is what the high and exalted(A) One says—
he who lives forever,(B) whose name is holy:
“I live in a high(C) and holy place,
but also with the one who is contrite(D) and lowly in spirit,(E)
to revive the spirit of the lowly
and to revive the heart of the contrite.(F)
16 I will not accuse(G) them forever,
nor will I always be angry,(H)
for then they would faint away because of me—
the very people(I) I have created.
17 I was enraged by their sinful greed;(J)
I punished them, and hid(K) my face in anger,
yet they kept on in their willful ways.(L)
18 I have seen their ways, but I will heal(M) them;
I will guide(N) them and restore comfort(O) to Israel’s mourners,
19     creating praise on their lips.(P)
Peace, peace,(Q) to those far and near,”(R)
says the Lord. “And I will heal them.”
20 But the wicked(S) are like the tossing sea,(T)
    which cannot rest,
whose waves cast up mire(U) and mud.
21 “There is no peace,”(V) says my God, “for the wicked.”(W)

Psalm 43[a]

Vindicate me, my God,
    and plead my cause(A)
    against an unfaithful nation.
Rescue me(B) from those who are
    deceitful and wicked.(C)
You are God my stronghold.
    Why have you rejected(D) me?
Why must I go about mourning,(E)
    oppressed by the enemy?(F)
Send me your light(G) and your faithful care,(H)
    let them lead me;(I)
let them bring me to your holy mountain,(J)
to the place where you dwell.(K)
Then I will go(L) to the altar(M) of God,
to God, my joy(N) and my delight.(O)
I will praise you with the lyre,(P)
    O God, my God.

Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
    my Savior and my God.(Q)

42 He commanded us to preach to the people(A) and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.(B) 43 All the prophets testify about him(C) that everyone(D) who believes(E) in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”(F)

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on(G) all who heard the message. 45 The circumcised believers who had come with Peter(H) were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out(I) even on Gentiles.(J) 46 For they heard them speaking in tongues[a](K) and praising God.

Then Peter said, 47 “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water.(L) They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”(M) 48 So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.(N) Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.

  1. Acts 10:46 Or other languages

16 For God so loved(A) the world that he gave(B) his one and only Son,(C) that whoever believes(D) in him shall not perish but have eternal life.(E) 17 For God did not send his Son into the world(F) to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.(G) 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned,(H) but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.(I) 19 This is the verdict: Light(J) has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.(K) 20 Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.(L) 21 But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.
